FLUID DYNAMICS FOR WIND TURBINES IN FARMS AND SWEDISH FORESTS
Computational Fluid Dynamics, CFD, is a large research area within STandUP for wind, with strong research environment both at Uppsala University and Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). The wind flow modelling group at Uppsala University, Campus Gotland focuses on the development of computational models to reproduce the environmental and operational conditions where wind farms are –or can be– located. KTH divison of Mechanics mainly focus on detailed aerodynamics, wake flows and wind tunnel experiments.
Aim: understanding of the physical features that characterize the dynamics of wind turbine wakes and their interactions with the terrain, the atmospheric boundary layer as well as with other turbines and wakes.
Focus: the development of models adequate to simulate wind flows and wak interaction in Swedish conditions.
